Discover Lockwood Distilling Company - Richardson

Walking into Lockwood Distilling Company - Richardson feels less like entering a bar and more like stepping into a neighborhood living room where everyone’s welcome. I’ve stopped by more than once after a long workday, and each visit had that easygoing rhythm-friendly staff, familiar faces, and the warm aroma of oak and citrus drifting from the bar. Located at 506 Lockwood Dr suite a, Richardson, TX 75080, United States, the space balances industrial charm with comfort, making it just as suitable for a casual meetup as it is for a low-key date night.

What stands out immediately is the menu, which doesn’t try to overwhelm. Instead, it focuses on doing a few things really well. Their house-distilled spirits are the backbone of everything, and you can taste the difference. During one visit, I chatted with a bartender about their distillation process, and he explained how small-batch production allows tighter control over flavor consistency. That attention shows up in drinks like the bold and smooth handcrafted bourbon and the surprisingly crisp small-batch vodka, both of which have earned frequent praise in local reviews.

The cocktail list rotates, but the approach stays the same: seasonal ingredients, balanced profiles, and zero gimmicks. Research from the American Distilling Institute notes that craft distilleries often emphasize local sourcing and smaller runs to preserve quality, and this place is a textbook example of that philosophy in action. You’ll notice fresh herbs, real citrus, and house-made syrups rather than shortcuts. For guests who prefer simplicity, neat pours and classic cocktails are always available, and the staff is happy to tailor a drink based on what you actually enjoy.

Food-wise, this isn’t a full diner menu, but the offerings are thoughtfully chosen to pair with the spirits. On one particularly busy evening, a small plate of pretzels with grain mustard kept our table happy while we worked through a tasting flight. It’s clear the focus is on complementing the drinks, not competing with them. That balance is likely why so many local patrons describe the experience as relaxed yet refined in online reviews.

From an expertise standpoint, the team clearly knows their craft. Conversations often drift toward fermentation times, barrel aging, and flavor extraction, and the explanations are always clear, never pretentious. Organizations like the Texas Craft Distillers Guild emphasize education and transparency, and that mindset seems baked into the culture here. You don’t need to be an expert to feel informed, and you never feel talked down to.

Trust builds quickly in a place like this because expectations are met consistently. Hours are accurate, the menu matches what’s available, and pricing stays reasonable for a craft-focused location. One limitation worth noting is seating during peak hours; the space can fill up fast on weekends, so arriving early helps. Still, that crowd is also proof of its reputation within Richardson’s growing food and drink scene.

Between the thoughtful menu, approachable expertise, and steady stream of positive local feedback, this distillery has carved out a solid identity. It’s the kind of spot where you can learn something new about spirits, enjoy a well-made drink, and still feel like you’re just hanging out in your own neighborhood.

  • Good drinks and good food. Pimento cheese and crackers was pretty tasty, bean dip also got rave reviews. Gotta ask for extra bread for that one. Incredible chicken sandwich. Chicken is juicy, breading is crunchy, sauce is killer. Would absolutely order again. Pastrami sandwich is ok but pales in comparison to the chicken. Potato salad is mustard based like it should be. Not sure it’s worth the $4 up charge. Wife liked the loaded tots, for $6 up charge I wasn’t super impressed. BTE was good. All the drinks were very tasty. If you can get there for happy hour they have some good deals but they’re worth full price if not. I feel like the fee for getting a side that’s not chips is garbage, but that’s the only gripe. And I guess I’ll just have to live with it because I’m sure we will be back.

  • I’m in from out of town visiting my daughter in Plano. WOW! What a find! Four cocktails (perfection), shared pimento cheese and crackers (spicy, smooth and crunchy), salad with leafy Spring greens, creamy goat cheese, dressed with a strawberry/lemonade vinaigrette and a watermelon radish garnish was unbelievably delicious and refreshing. We shared the poblano soup (a buttery crumb topping was a tasty addition), and the smoked balogna muffuletta half was more than we could manage. It will make a lovely lunch to savor tomorrow. What an experience! Fresh and balanced flavors, creative menu and cocktails, attentive service with attention to detail made for an exceptionally enjoyable meal and experience. See y’all again during the holidays!

  • Sat at the bar for happy hour and Austin was great. You'll get the best service at the bar. I did notice a waitress just standing around and her tables had to come find her to ask for stuff. Great happy hour if you're a cocktail fan. No beers or wine on special. Great happy hour food prices and options. The deviled eggs, cracklins and burger were all awesome. They might want to better train their staff to not sit at the bar in uniform off shift and complain about tips and other businesses right in front of customers.

  • The service and atmosphere here is wonderful! We came on a Saturday night, no wait and sat outdoors since it was good weather. There was live music and people here are very nice. The Richardson mule was delicious - I appreciate that the ginger beer wasn’t overpowering like some moscow mules can be. The dirty tots were classic shareable and we enjoyed them hot and fresh. The grazing board wasn’t bad but was missing some sweet things like jam or plain crackers to balance out the rest of the savory board. Overall, a nice place to hang out with friends or do a date night at.

  • Stopped here on the way to a wedding reception to grab a pre-drink and it was perfect. The vibes and space are well thought of to accommodate different crowds. From sitting outdoor to hug tables and chair and regular dinning. We sat at the bar and they were pretty busy., this was a Saturday evening. Still we got greeted and welcomed and served water in a timely manner. The bartender told us about their menu and answered some questions we had about their Menu. In our opinion the cocktails were a tad bit too sweet but good. They have a big Menu to chose from. In this occasion we only had a drink but will definitely return to try out their food. We also enjoyed the live Music

  • My only issue was the COMEBACK CRACKERS on the GRAZING BOARD. They literally obliterated the flavor of anything and everything on the board. A great cheese board will have neutral crackers that do not take away from the meat, cheese and components of the charcuterie board. All of the other ingredients and items fantastic sans the cracker. The wait staff and atmosphere are top notch and I will definitely be back. My daughter and I sampled a variety of specialty items on the drink menu and while some didn’t suit our preferences, the quality and value was superb.

  • I was craving something warm and boozy so my friend and I decided to check this place out and had the best time! This distillery and restaurant was super clean and had such a comfortable family atmosphere and a nice sized patio. I especially loved the live music being played on the patio. The manager Tony was so nice and welcoming and gave us a complete run down of the distillery, cocktails and the stories behind them, which made the experience that much better. Every cocktail we tried was spectacular ! My friend started with the Rosemary Lavendar Gimlet and I had the seasonal Gingerbread Hot Toddy which was SOOOO good! We a tried the Lockwood Sazerac, Black Currant Hibiscus Froze, and the Little Red Corvette . As a person who typically doesn’t order frozen drinks the Little Red Corvette was definitely one of the best frozen drinks I’ve ever had, it had such a unique and balanced taste and it was not overbearingly sweet. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, they’ve also got great food! I enjoyed the Vegan Bahn and tater tots and my friend enjoyed the Dirty South Tots and Tomato Basil Soup! Everything was delicious! It’s safe to say we LOVED IT and had such an amazing time. We will definitely be back sooner rather than later!!
